Drill-down using "n" levels using a table?

How should i create a "n" levels drill-down report using a table based on MDX query?

I can only seem to use the visible or invisible based on a know number of levels ("columns in the table") what if i don't know that exact number? Or it is a unbalanced hierarchy?

I cannot use the Matrix because my columns are static and with two levels...

You can use show/hide recursive groups in a table based on parent child hierarchies.|||How do i use that option in SSRS 2005 ?

I changed my computer name to remove the underscore from name.
After that I used rsconfig.exe utility to change the connection settings of
report server.
Now, my reports show the images and drill down in the browser.
Many thanks for your help.

drill-down in excel format

dear all,

anyone know how to make a report using RS to create a drill-down with chart in excel format?

meaning i need a report showing in chat format in excel. and then i also able to drill-down the report. and the chat figure will change follow the drill.

Hello,

The Excel renderer generates charts as static images, not as Excel charts. If you want live Excel charts that update when you change the source data, you should use SoftArtisans OfficeWriter (http://officewriter.softartisans.com).

-Chris

|||

tat is a tools to generate report right?

i not looking for a tools, but i looking a way to settle it. because i got the reporting service at my company already. management will not spend other fund to buy other software.

so any walkaround?

|||

There is no workaround without a third-party tool. The native Excel renderer always exports charts as static images. Even if the Excel renderer did export real Excel charts, Excel itself doesn't support the notion of hyperlink actions when clicking on parts of a chart.

-Chris

|||

so this mean only can use the third-party tool to read data from the database directly?

so in this case the microsoft RS is not able to use. am i right?

|||

Now I'm confused about what your goal is. What exactly is your requirement? Can you please explain it again?

I thought you were trying to export charts to Excel that you can click on and be drilled through to different targets depending on where in the chart you clicked.

What do you mean "read data from the database directly"?

-Chris

Drill-down in ASP.NET with iframes

Hello all I pretty new to SRS. I've got an asp.net application that uses
iframes to display reports. I'm trying to get the reports to drill down.
I've tried using the 'Jump to report' option but it opens the report on top
of my application so I loose my iframe (and app header and navigation). I
can't work out how to change this behaviour. I also tried the 'Jump to URL'
but ran into some issues with this too. I had to hardcode my server name in
the link. I also have to put code in my page to handle the parameters. Is
there a better way?What about using the _self target rather than the _top target, which is
default. ?

firewall, which makes it really hard to get technical research done (very
annoying). Could you please cut and paste relevant bits for me. Thanks

What action are you using to generate the URL? Jump to Report will not
work
with LinkTarget. Jump to URL will. So in your example below, when a
user
clicks on the link, any URL's in the Consolidated report will have
target = _self. But unless the parent report of Consolidated has
rc:LinkTarget=_self,
your link below will open in _top. Where are you running into a
problem?
Please be more specific about parent reports, child reports and the
expected
navigation of users. This will help me to better answer your question.

`
end|||Thanks for the help. I worked out the solution. For anyone struggling with
the same issue here is what I did.
1. Use 'Jump to URL' instead of the other options.
2. Open Report Viewer project and add the following code:
Private _linktarget As String = "_self"
<Category("HTMLViewer Commands"), Description("Sets rc:linktarget to change
iFrame target")> _
Public Property LinkTarget() As String
Get
Return Me._linktarget
End Get
Set(ByVal Value As String)
Me._linktarget = Value
Me.SetParameter("rc:LinkTarget", Value)
End Set
End Property
3. Recompile and place dll in project bin.
Now the default is _self and you have the option to change the target from
your code.
This solution isn't ideal because you have to use the jump to url which
means more work in creating the url with params, and you may have to hard
code your servername.
If anyone comes up with a better solution please post it.

In SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), cross-tab reports are called
matrix reports. You should be able to get started on a basic matrix
report via the report creation wizard. As far as drill-down reports,
here is a link that might help.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964132.aspx
Also, I am offering a Practical SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
class in the Nashville, TN area available starting April 23rd, if you
are available at that time. You can email me at:
emartinez.pr1@.gmail.com for specifics (incl pricing, course outline,
etc).

Drill-Down Context

I'm wanting to set the background color of a field. The field is part of a
drill-down row group (Office -> Transaction Type (visibility toggled by
Office) --> Field!TranCount.Value).
I would like to set the background color based on 2 conditions:
1) Field!x.Value (which I know) - this works currently
2) The context of the TranCount field
By context I mean...
If the drilldown is "open" or "closed".
Since the expression language in SRS is, apparently, very limited (and not
very well documented) I'm assuming that I'll have to live with Just setting
the background color based on the known field values.. but I can always ask!!!
TIADetermining the state of the drilldown toggle is not supported.

drill-down capabilities and security implementation across different levels of h

Hi,

How to create the in crystal reports having drill-down capabilities and security implementation across different levels of hierarchy?
For instance, they can create a report having billing and booking Qty. that can be drilled-down across time dimension. Different levels could be year, month, week etc. Security should be implemented in such a way that a particular group of users can see data only at the week level, second group of users can see data at the month as well as the week level and third group can see all three - year, month and week data.

Can anybody helpppp??

smithaHi

CR is just a reporting tool, if u implement the security feature in the database that is accessed by the report, then you don't need to bother about it in the reports.
