Dropdown won't show values if only one item is available

I have a report that has 2 dropdowns, selecting from the first dropdown populates the second one. This works fine in the BI Studio.

When I deploy this report to the 'Report Manager' and make a selection from the first dropdown, the second dropdown loads (as expected). I tried to select from the second dropdown (which has only 1 item - which is correct), the dropdown does not appear correctly - as in, I can't see that item.

Since we can't attach anything here, below is the link to a screenshot of my issue:
http://docs.google.com/View?docid=ddd6j2xn_52c5qd5

If you look closely at the screenshot from the link above, you'll see that there is a value in the second dropdown - it just won't show completely - as if the dropdown is not rendering correctly. I can view source on the page and see that the dropdown has a value.

What appears to be happening is the if only 1 item is in the second dropdown and that item is longer than the size of the dropdown, the dropdown won't render.

Here is my value for the second dropdown '012 Candy Gadler David Thapero'. This is the only value in the second dropdown. - You can try 35 chars or more in the dropdown to confirm.

Notes:
+ No special chars are in either dropdown
+ I am using IE 7 (Also had someone test this on IE 6 - same problem)
+ Using Visual Studio 2005 to build report - where this works fine

Work around:
+ If I add another item to the dropdown via a UNION query, I see the original value + the new item in the dropdown #2

Please share your thoughts
Thanks,
h.

Weird, because I cannot make that happen. I created two dropdowns with items that are each way longer than yours, the second one is dependent on the first and has only one item, and I don't get that scrollbar in the dropdown, the page just becomes wide enough for the dropdowns and I have to scroll the whole page across to see the second dropdown, but it displays fine. I tried it in Report Manager, then I tried it in the Report Viewer and there it also works although it looks a little different. Instead of the whole report getting wider, just the parameters section gets wider, so I have to scroll it, but again the dropdown is full width.

I'm using Reporting Services 2005 with SP1.

SNMSDN ,

Are your parameters Multi-value? Try making them multi-value. Your assistance is appreciated.

|||

Haha - that's it, if it's multivalue I cannot see the single value either.

Someone from MS - we have a bug.

|||

It is a bug. Actually the value is there, but horizontal scrollbar took too much space, and completely covered it.

As far as I remember it was fixed in Sql Server 2005 SP1

Drop login error

Hi
I am trying to drop a windows login via Management Studio (CTP June) but it comes up with
'Login domain\user' has granted one or more permissions. Revoke the permission before dropping the login (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15173)
I cannot see of any permissions that this user has granted. Is there a system view in SQL 2005 which shows permissions this user has granted?
Thanks,
Priyanga

You need to look at the "Security Catalog Views" topic in Books Online. Specifically, take a look at sys.server_permissions and sys.server_principals views to map principal_id of the login you are looking at to the permissions. You can do that at database level as well.

Something along these lines (use this as an idea):

select * from sys.server_permissions
where grantee_principal_id =
(select principal_id from sys.server_principals where name = N'DOMAIN\user')

Alternatively, in Object explorer, you can select Security->Logins->DOMAIN/user, Properties of the login, go Securables and add objects (e.g. server(s)) and this will show you explicit permissions of this login on the object(s). You can revoke there explicit permissions as well.

Then you can also go to the properties of the server in Object Explorer, Permissions and click on the login and click on Effective Permissions. This will show all the permissions for this user based on its role membership and explicitly granted permissions.

HTH,
Boris.

|||

Thanks Boris.

What was causing the issue was that the principal_id (nation\pk0159_a) was linked to grantor_principal_id in the sys.server_permissions as apposed to the grantee_principal_id. The object responsible for this issue was an endpoint. When i dropped the endpoint, i was allowed to drop nation\pk0159_a.

This explains why no objects were showing as being granted permissions by nation\pk0159_a in object explorer in SQL Management Studio.

Cheers,
Priyanga

DROP DATABASE -> database in use error

when I do DROP DATABASE I'm getting errors because it's in use. But if I do a delete from the mgmt studio gui I have the option to close all connections as part of the delete. Is there a way to achieve the same effect from a sql script?

Here is an article I wrote about that:

http://drsql.spaces.msn.com/blog/cns!80677FB08B3162E4!950.entry

Basically:

alter database <databaseName>

set single_user with rollback immediate

I find this indispensible when testing database creation scripts with a few windows open and I need to drop the database, recreate it with scripts, fix some stupid bug and then re-run things.

Two tricks:

First, most every dialog in SSMS and SSMSE (express edition) have a script button. So most things you can just get the script. On my express edition however, the alter database stuff wasn't scripted, so I cannot say with 100% accuracy (it might just be a bug :)

Second, a trick to find these things sorts of things out. If you aren't using Express Edition, you can run profiler and usually see the commands that SQL Server is running. This way, if the script doesn't work like you expect it to, you can see what they are actually running :)

|||

There are scripts that you can get to kill all users in the database... it uses a simple cursor to collect the information from the sysprocesses table or the sp_who command and run a kill command against each of the connections that releate to the database in question. If you have a look at the scripts section of www.sqlservercentral.com you will be able to find the scripts i am talking about.

drop and create in the same script in management studio

In SQL 2000, we could generate the drop and create statements for an object
in the same script. I have not been able to do this in management studio. Am
I missing something?
No you aren't missing something the tool is<g>. It was somehow left out but
I suspect we will see it in the next service pack. As of now you can only
choose one or the other but not both.

Seems to be a bug as the docs indicate you can do a drop, create, or
drop and create.

Drillthrough Reports not working in Webforms Report Viewer Control

I am using SSRS 2005.
I created a report (Report A) which links to another report (Report B). The
drillthrough works fine both in Visual Studio and via Report Manager.
I have an ASP.NET application which uses the Report Viewer Control to
display Report A. When I click the links in Report A to go to Report B, the
Report Viewer Control/IE shows the hour glass as if something is about to
happen, refreshes the page but still displays Report A.
Obviously the link is set up properly and the reports work since linking
from Report A to Report B works fine from Report Manager.
Are there any known issues with Drillthrough Reports not working in Webforms
Report Viewer Control? Are there any special considerations I should know
about? Any special set up I should be doing?
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
--
Chris, SSSIHello Chris,
I have tested on my side that the Drillthrough report works fine on my side.
Here are the steps:
1. Create a new Web Site in the VS 2005.
2. Drag a Report View Control to the Web Page.
3. Click the triangle in the right-up of the Report View Control.
4. Enter the Report Server name and the Report Path of the Drillthough
report.
5. Run the solution and the Drillthough report works fine.
Please try the steps on your side and let me know the result.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

Microsoft Online Community Support|||Hi,
It turns out I created my own problem. Chalk it up to lack of experience
with ASP.NET apps. ;-)
The problem was I have code in my code behind page to configure the Report
Viewer control, but I was not checking for a post back condition. When the
user clicks a link to a drill through report a post back is done. As a result
my code behind page was reinitializing the Report Viewer on every user click.
Once I moved that Report Viewer set up code inside a check for "not
postback" everything worked fine.

drill down report with report viewer

Hi
I am using the new report viewer control that comes with Reporting services
2005. However, my reports were created in using Visual Studio 2003 and are
.rdl files. Previously I used jump to url to drill down in a report and
passed the report url along with the report parameters in the query string.
I tried my report using the new report viewer control but when I click on a
drill down link, the report opens in the report viewer but it takes over the
whole IE window. My report viewer is within a page which is within one of
many frames that make up my webb application.
How can I get the drill down to work without losing my other frames?
If this is not possible, what do I need to do to convert my .rdl files to
.rdlc. I understand if I do this that I will need to take the sql query out
of my .rdl report and load up a dataset in code using this query and then
set this as the datasource for the report. Is this correct?
Thanks
Lewis Holmes
eNateHi eNate,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup Support.
From your description, my understanding of this issue is: When you use the
jump to url to view a report in the report viewer control ( SQL Reporting
Services 2005 ), all the frames gones away. If I misundertstood your
concern, please feel free to point it out.
I have tested on my SPS site. But it works fine.
1. I create a Web Page Part, configurate the Report Viewer Control to view
the report. In the report I use jump to url to redirect to another report.
2. I access the Web Page, the report shows fine.
3. I click the link in the report, and it redirected, and the Report Viewer
is fine.
Have you install SPS Service Pack 2? If not , please install and try to
check the issue again.
You can download SP2 from the following site:

Basically when I click on the link in a report, the report opens in the same
window but the other frames I had are lost.
I have tried using
javascript:void(window.open('reportURLandParameters','_self'));
but this does not work. The closest I have got is to replace '_self' with
the name of the iframe that the report viewer control uses. This works but i
get the report along with the report toolbar are displayed again within the
original report viewer frame. I tried adding &rc:toolbar=false to remove the
toolbar and this works but then the refresh button on the toolbar crashes
with javascript error and print preview thinks the original report page is
still being displayed.
Has anybody got a jump to report URL drill down to open in the report viewer
correctly when using the report viewer within a frame?
I really do not want to have to change the reports at this stage of
development.
I am using .rdl reports and Visual Studio 2005 with ASP.net 2.0.
Thanks
